Ms Schembri obtained her Honours Degree in Accountancy from the University of Malta. In 1990 she joined the Public Service specializing in Taxation, obtaining her Certified Public Accountant Warrant and Practicing Certificate in Auditing. She went on to occupy various managerial posts in the Ministries of Finance, Economy, Justice and Home Affairs and Agriculture.
In 2000 she moved to the private sector becoming Secretary General for the Malta Federation of Co-operatives and a Consultant for the Wine Sector. As a member of MEUSAC (Malta European Union Steering Committee) she was highly involved in the negotiations of the Agricultural Chapter of the Acquis, particularly in the Wine Sector.
In 2004 she returned to the Public Service and was appointed Director Financial Control in the Ministries of Finance with Control of Government owned Entities’ finances as the major task. In 2006 she was appointed Director General Public Internal Financial Control within the Ministry of Finance. In March 2008 she was appointed Director General Internal Audit and Investigations, heading the Internal Audit and Investigations Department which falls under Cabinet Office, Office of the Prime Minister. As the DG of the Department she heads Malta’s Audit Authority and is head of AFCOS Malta (Anti Fraud Co-Ordinating Services – Office Lutte Anti-Fraud - OLAF’s interlocutors).
Ms Schembri is married to Mark and has two children, Jake and Kristy.
